This month, the theme in Creative Every Day Challenge is Books. At the exact moment I read this I was absolutely sure about my choice: to illustrate a scene from one of my favorite books, A Place in The Sun, from my favorite brazilian writer, Erico Veríssimo. I read almost all of his books, and he’s very famous for the serie Time and the Wind (which is very good too!), but my favorite “series” from him are the books about Clarissa and the people around her: Clarissa, Music from Afar, A Place in the Sun and Saga. Another novels in this cycle (in the same time and space) are Crossroads and Consider the Lillies of the Field, this two contain some characters that become friends of Clarissa and her cousin Vasco, the protagonists and narrators of this books.
I was already a fan of the cronist Luís Fernando Veríssimo, and one day my mother suggested Music from Afar, because it was written by his father. And ever since, I become a fan of the father and son books (the novels from Erico and the chronicles of Luís Fernando)!
Ahem. I got a little excited. Hehehe. But seriously. The scene I choose to illustrate is from the very end of the book (ooh kinda a spoiler!). It’s the first time Vasco realised how much he lost by not observing the people who are closest to him. He’s an artist too, and the description of the image he sees is Clarissa sitting by the window, with only the moon illuminating the whole room, and her shadow projected in the floor. And I went with it. The book is set in the end of the 30’s in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Oh yeah, I ship it. The end.
Esse mês, o tema do Creative Every Day Challenge is Books (livros). No momento exato que li isso eu estava absolutamente certa da minha escolha: ilustrar uma cena de um dos meus livros favoritos, Um Lugar ao Sol, do meu escritor brasileiro favorito, Erico Veríssimo. E li quase todos os livros dele, e ele é muito famoso pela série O Tempo e o Vento (que é muito boa também!), mas minha “série” favorita dele são os livros sobre Clarissa e as pessoas ao redor dela: Clarissa, Música ao Longe, Um Lugar ao Sol e Saga. Outros livros nesse ciclo (no mesmo tempo e espaço) são Caminhos Cruzados e Olhai os Lírios do Campo, esses dois contém alguns personagens que viram amigos de Clarissa e seu primo Vasco, os protagonistas e narradores desses livros.
Eu já era fã do cronista Luís Fernando Veríssimo, e um dia minha mãe sugeriu que eu lesse Música ao Longe, porque foi escrita pelo pai dele. E desde então, eu virei fã do pai e do filho (dos romances do Erico e das crônicas do Luís Fernando)!
Ahem. Eu fiquei um pouco empolgada. Hehehe. Mas sério. A cena que eu escolhi ilustrar é do finalzinho do livro (ooh meio que spoiler!). É a primeira vez que Vasco percebeu o quanto perdeu por não notar as pessoas que estavam mais próximas a ele. Ele também é um artista, e a descrição da imagem que ele vê é Clarissa sentada na janela, com apenas a lua iluminando toda a sala e sua sombra projetada no chão. E eu fui nessa. O livro se passa no final dos anos 30, em Porto Alegre.
E sim, eu shippo. Fim.
